Odd Spirits by S.T. Gibson ~ a Review

by MK French

Moira and Rhys recently married, and there's malevolent spirit activity in their home. He's a ceremonial sorcerer and she's a tarot-reading witch, yet neither one can banish the spirit. Rhys turns to his secret society for help, but it's coming from his ex-boyfriend David. Everything is on the line, from their marriage to their magic.

Odd Spirits is the prequel to Evocation, so it isn't necessary to have read that book first. Moira and Rhys met in Boston, dated, explored their different magic interests, and married really quickly into their relationship. At first it went well, but both carried resentments and doubts they didn't feel comfortable discussing with each other. On top of this, the spirit in their home is causing trouble, and reaching out to the Society only widens the gap between them.

If you've read Evocation, then you have an idea of how this ends, but not necessarily the details behind it. Here, we see those details, as well as the meet-cute they had, and what David did and said to make Moira distrust and almost hate him. There are different versions of this book, from plain text to a beautifully designed edition with illustrations of the couple and plates with details of their home. If you can find the illustrated edition, please grab that one. It's so pretty and adds atmosphere to the book.
