The Walkers of River's Edge Books 3 - 4 by Nan Reinhardt ~ a Review

by Susan Roberts

Last year, I reviewed books 1 and 2 in The Walkers of River's Edge series. If you like small-town romance novels then this is a series you will want to read. Now is a great time to catch up as the 4th (and final) book comes out this week.

This Christmas he has big plans until he meets a beautiful distraction….

I'm really enjoying this series by Nan Reinhardt.  The books are romances but they all address serious issues.  Book 3 looks at grief after the death of a spouse and making a decision to live your life despite your grief.

Cam is in the Army reserves and is always happy after a deployment to get back to his large family in River's Edge.  He's making a dower chest for his mother for Christmas and he needs someone to paint folk art pictures on the completed chest.  He sees some sketches made by an artist who is currently living with her aunts.  When Cam asks Harper if she will do the painting, she totally refuses and won't even talk to him.  Harper isn't really interested in getting to know Cam or anyone else in town.  Her husband had died in Afghanistan two years earlier and she is still grieving him to the point that she just wants to be left alone.  Cam is interested in her as an artist and as a woman so he makes it his goal to help her learn to live life again and remind her of what she's been missing.  Will Cam and the people of River's Edge be successful in convincing Harper to enjoy life again and will the sparks between them result in a happily ever after?

I really enjoyed both of the main characters.  Cam was always so happy with life and really wanted to help Harper even if they were never more than friends.  Harper and her grief were very realistic.  It's a difficult step to learn to enjoy life again after the death of a spouse.  I also enjoyed the people of the town who all worked together to make Harper feel accepted.   I was pulling for a romance for Harper and Cam from the first time they met and I definitely enjoyed their journey to love.

Made to Love You

January 2025; Tule Publishing
ebook (215 pages); romance

She’s not looking for love, but a handsome veterinarian and a lost puppy have other plans…

This is the fourth and final book in The Walkers of River's Edge series.  It's sad to say goodbye to the wonderful people in town as well as to the Walker family.  As with all of this author's books, the stories are clean romances with characters that you'd love to meet in real life.

Annabelle is 38 years old and is a gifted architect working for her family's construction company.  Unlike the other members of her family who are in committed and loving relationships, Anna is happy being single.  A long-term relationship ended badly for her in the past and the pain left her feeling that she couldn't trust any man and would be happier staying single.  On one beautiful spring day, she goes for a bike ride to take pictures for the class that she's teaching.  On her ride, she finds an injured puppy alone in the woods.  Before she can take him to the vet, a car stops to ask for directions to the veterinary clinic. It turns out that it's the new vet Sawyer.  Sawyer is fascinated with Anna but she lets him know that she isn't interested in him or in adopting the dog that she's found.  Sawyer keeps trying and eventually convinces her to foster the puppy AND to go on a date with him.  Will he be able to change Anna's mind about the dog and more importantly, about him as a boyfriend?

I enjoyed both of the main characters but my favorite was Sawyer.  He was polite, kind, and cared about animals and people.  I was hoping throughout the book that Sawyer would break down Anna's defenses and they would get their happily ever after.
