Murder on the Cornish Coast is book 19 in the Miss Underhay series but like most cozy mysteries, you don't have to read all the previous books to enjoy this one. Actually, this might be a good one to start with as a new overarching mystery is started in this book and will probably last for several more.
As Matt and Kitty travel to help Lady Cordelia solve the murder of her father, we don't see man of the regular characters in the series. Kitty's grandmother and Mrs. Craven have a short scene in the beginning and Inspector Lewis is seconded to the police department near St Mawes to assist with the murder investigation. So again, this would be a great book to start with if you haven't picked up this series before as the cast is pretty small.
It seems that Matt and Kitty are more observers in this mystery rather than sleuths as they are hoping Lady Cordelia recovers her memories. They do try to piece together the the events of that night from what she does remember along with the recollections of the other members of the party. Because Kitty and Matt aren't running around looking for clues, we get more time with them just being together which is nice.
It also gives Matt time to look into a person from his past. At the very end of the last book, Murder in New York, Matt catches a glimpse of a person he thought died during the war. He attended the man's funeral but Matt can't shake the feeling that this person is really him. We get a few clues about what happened the night the man supposedly died at the convalescence hospital but this is being set up to follow through at least a few books. Early in this series, we had the mystery of Kitty's mother's murder which last for several books but it has been a while since they've taken up a case that wasn't solved in the pages of the current book. I'm looking forward to this new mystery.
If you are looking for a fun, easy read then this is a great book to pick up.
