The Friday 56 is a weekly meme hosted by Freda's Voice. The rules are simple go to page 56 (or 56% on your ereader) of any book and share a few lines. No spoilers!
My selection comes from When Smiles Fade by Paige Dearth.
Emma raised her beer in the air. "Here's to people getting what they deserve!"
Brianna smiled brightly and they clanged beer cans and took a long swig.

Powerful excerpt. I'm wondering if it's the girl from the cover all grown up or her mother speaking. From the cover, it looks like an emotional story.

If indicates the story within, I'm afraid I won't be able to read it. But I do love that beer toast scene.
ReplyDeleteHmm, between the cover and the quote, I'm wondering exactly what the book might be about.
ReplyDeleteCheck out my Friday 56
I am definitely intrigued! Checking this one out...and thanks for visiting my blog.
ReplyDeleteOh no, I get the sense something bad is going to happen. I do hope you enjoy your read!

Can't give over the little girl on the cover. I don't think a child would ever get over such pain whether inflicted by a bully or a relative.
ReplyDeleteThat's quite the cover though the quote makes it sound like vengeance is had!
ReplyDeleteThat's definitely a startling cover and paired with the excerpt it sounds like this could be quite an intense read. I have a feeling that things aren't going to be quite as simple as people just getting what they deserve!
ReplyDeleteBeing a mother, that child breaks my heart. Then a spiteful person is spewing in the 56, I can just imagine I would need a buttload of tissues to get through this one. Still, sounds very good.
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend!
I'm going to go out on a limb and say I think Emma and Brianna's actions are justified. Am I right?
ReplyDeleteOhhh...this teaser sure grabs your attention.
ReplyDeleteBeing a bit sensitive, I'm not sure I could handle this one. Such sad cover art. We only have one childhood... Thanks for sharing.
