Review: Video Dungeon by Kim Neuman

by MK French

This is a collection of Kim Newman's reviews of various horror movies for Empire magazine, so it's a little meta to be writing a review of a bunch of reviews.

print (320 pages); reference
He knows a lot about movies, linking them to others in the genre and pulling apart the predictable tropes and storylines for the reader. Because the movies run the gamut from 1950's classics to modern retellings and gore fests, as well as movies made and screened in other countries, there are likely going to be a lot of movies you've never even heard of, let alone seen. There are a lot of recent ones reviewed and referenced in other reviews so you can decide for yourself if these movies are worth your time. Some B movies are fun to watch after all, and several SyFy Channel movies are also listed here.

The collection is fun to look through, as the reviews are separated by category (Dracula movies separate from monster movies, etc) and is also a good reference for collectors of various horror movies.

Born and raised in New York City, M.K. French started writing stories when very young, dreaming of different worlds and places to visit. She always had an interest in folklore, fairy tales, and the macabre, which has definitely influenced her work. She currently lives in the Midwest with her husband, three young children, and golden retriever.
