The first paragraph of the prologue. |
Wow -- this is an intense, exciting book that will keep you enthralled until the last page. I must admit, I was up after midnight last night because I had to find out how it ended. There were so many twists and turns in this novel and just when I thought I had it all figured out, I found out that I was totally wrong. The ending is a surprise but is absolutely perfect.

Mindy is a 17-year-old competitive skier getting close to her goal of making the Olympic team. Her parents have always been totally supportive of her to the point of making her the sole purpose in their lives - they feel that the three of them together can overcome all obstacles. When Mindy has an accident on the slopes, she breaks her leg and has to be rushed to the hospital for surgery. During surgery, the doctors find out that she has a rare form of leukemia and that a stem cell transplant is her only hope of survival. When her parents are tested, everyone is shocked to find out that they are not matches which means that Mindy is not their child. The search to find a donor and Mindy's real parents unravels years of family secrets. Will the family be able to find the truth in time to save Mindy? Will the family be able to survive the truth? What makes the story even more suspenseful is an occasional chapter about two teenage girls in a mental hospital. The girls remain nameless in the first chapters and even though the reader knows that they have something to do with the family, we aren't sure of the connection until the end.
This is a fantastic suspenseful novel that will keep you turning pages long into the night and I highly recommend it.

Great author!
ReplyDeleteShe just keeps getting better, doesn't she?
DeleteI have loved this author's books...and almost bought this one. My sheer number of purchases for the month stopped me. Also, I don't like sports stories, but this one sounds like so much more. Thanks for sharing...and now I'm off the fence on it.
ReplyDeleteHere's mine: “SECRETS OF THE TULIP SISTERS”
I wouldn't call this a sports story at all. The sports part of it is very much in the background. I loved Secrets of the Tulip sisters.
DeleteThanks for being on the tour!
ReplyDeleteOooohh...This looks soooo good! Gotta read this one for sure! Thanks for stopping by my blog earlier!

ReplyDeleteThose opening lines drew me in completely, even though I did have to go off at a bit of a tangent for a while, as I had never heard of the 'Butterfly Effect' either and I needed to find out more about it!
I am pleased that you added your praise to the amazing ratings and reviews the book has already amassed and thanks for sharing :)
