Low Country Hero is my first book by this author. Based on the book's title, I expected this to be a romance novel and nothing else. I was very pleasantly surprised to find out that it was way more than a romance novel - even though there is romance in it. The book is about spousal abuse and how it affects not only the partner being abused but also the children who are aware of the situation.

The town is full of some very interesting characters. There is not only Sean but his two brothers - Liam and Cash who have to deal with their memories of being part of a household with domestic abuse when they were growing up. As with all small towns, everyone knows everyone's business so we also have several nosy but well-meaning characters - the town librarian and the owner of the small restaurant in town among others. At first, it seemed as if there were too many extra characters other than Sean and Anna but they all played a part in the novel and in the romance between the two main characters.
Overall, I thought that this was a well-written story with a lot of interesting characters. I realized near the end that some of the questions wouldn't be answered in this book and that it was the first book in a new series. I am interested in these characters and look forward to the next book in the Safe Haven series: Low Country Dreams which publishes on May 28, 2019.
