It seemed a bit strange to me to be reading a Christmas book in the midst of 90-degree weather but it was a Viola Shipman book and I don't pass those up. Plus it takes place in the beautiful state of Michigan, so it is definitely a great read no matter how hot it is outside.

The story takes place at a Christmas shop in Frankenmuth, Michigan, a town well known for its Christmas stores and decorations. Henri grew up in this town but moved to the big city as soon as she graduated from college. She felt that there must be more to life and that Detroit was where her future was. She hadn't been home for Christmas in years but suddenly showed up on their doorstep. She wanted them to think she was homesick but the truth was that she had promised her boss that she would convince her parents to sell their Christmas store to a major conglomerate. She knows that's the only way she'll be able to keep her job in the city. As she funnels information back to her boss, she begins to feel the Christmas magic in her small town. She has to make some decisions -- does she really want to go back to her job which in reality has lost some of the original glamour over the years. Or does she want to stay in Frankenmuth with her family and enjoy the Christmas magic and maybe reconnect with her old boyfriend - the man she left behind when she went to college.
This is a great book -- there's a little romance, a little magic, and lots of love between family members. It's a book about forgiveness - not only of other people but learning to forgive yourself for wrong decisions. It's a book about love and family and the magic of Christmas. It's a Christmas book that you don't want to miss.
