Katherine is living the good life with her husband in Colorado. Her husband is a successful doctor, their two children are doing well and she is able to spend her time on charitable endeavors. Considering that she and her husband both had difficult upbringings, they are very close and have a happy marriage...until she begins to suspect that he is having an affair with a new doctor at the hospital and she realizes that she's being followed. Is there a connection between these two occurrences? She becomes very suspicious and starts to distrust her husband.
It's April and that has always been a tough month for her to navigate. Their first child died of SIDS in April and over the years it seems as if the month of April always brings problems. She is in the grocery store when she realizes that someone is following her. When she tells her husband, he makes light of it and advises her not to call the police. That seems a bit strange to her but she has recently begun to believe that he is having an affair so she blames his disinterest on believing that he doesn't love her anymore. After she realizes that she's being followed, she finds that she lost her bracelet. She's approached by a local rancher (who may be more than he appears to be) who tells her that someone is following her and makes it his business to try to protect her. Things get even more frightening for her when she realizes not only is she being stalked but that someone may be trying to kill her. Is it her husband or is there someone else who wants to end her life and why? Her suspicions of her husband run rampant throughout the story and the suspense builds as she gets closer to figuring out what's really happening.
This was an interesting book and Katherine was a well written character but the ending was kind of a letdown. I read that the author died before she was able to finish final edits and based on earlier books that I've read by her, I think that the story could have been tightened up had she been able to do edits and revisions. That said, I thought that this book was interesting and a quick read. If you've enjoyed previous books by this author, you don't want to miss this one.
